Caitlin Clark made WNBA history on Saturday by becoming the first rookie to achieve a triple-double. The Indiana Fever star secured this milestone with her 10th rebound early in the fourth quarter, leading her team to an 83-79 victory over the New York Liberty. This triple-double was also a first for any player in Fever history.
Clark had an impressive start to the game, scoring 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting (3-of-4 from three-point range), along with three assists, three rebounds, and two steals in the first quarter. While her scoring slowed in the subsequent quarters, her playmaking and passing remained strong, reaching 10 assists by the third quarter.
The Fever ended a nine-game losing streak against the Liberty, securing their first win over New York since May 2022. New York, which had won five consecutive games and 13 of its last 14, led by 11 points in the fourth quarter. However, the Fever mounted a 28-12 run in the final minutes to claim the win, with Clark contributing six points, three assists, and four rebounds during this period.
Clark had previously come close to a triple-double on June 30 against the Phoenix Mercury, where she recorded 15 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds. Since June 7, she has averaged 16.4 points, 7.9 assists, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.
The Fever’s victory on Saturday marked their ninth win in 22 games this season, a significant improvement over last season, where they didn’t achieve their ninth win until the 33rd game. Indiana is currently eighth in the playoff standings, just behind the Chicago Sky for the seventh spot.
