Richie Murphy’s team, Ulster, is in Pool 1 of the Champions Cup and will compete against Bordeaux Begles, Leicester Tigers, and Exeter Chiefs. Although the Sharks are in the same pool, Ulster will not face them as teams from the same domestic leagues avoid each other. Ulster will play against the English and French teams once, with the schedule yet to be determined. Last season, Ulster struggled, winning only one of four pool games. Toulouse, who defeated Leinster in the final, secured their sixth Champions Cup title and recently claimed the French League crown with a decisive win over Bordeaux. Ulster will face Toulouse again after a heavy defeat last season, largely due to Antoine Dupont’s performance. Bordeaux, boosted by new signing Joey Carbery, reached their first Top 14 final last weekend. Ulster has a history with Leicester, a club now coached by Michael Cheika, and famously defeated them in 2004. Exeter, the 2020 champions, are in a transitional phase. The competition format remains the same, with the top four from each pool advancing to the last 16, and the fifth-place teams moving to the Challenge Cup.
