LSU women’s basketball continues to load up on talent, and head coach Kim Mulkey has just added another major piece to her championship-caliber squad. Former East Carolina forward Amiya Joyner officially committed to LSU through the transfer portal, and her simple yet powerful three-word reaction summed up her mindset heading into this next chapter: “Ready to work.”
Joyner, a 6-foot-3 forward from North Carolina, was a standout performer during her time with the Pirates. Known for her physicality in the post, rebounding instincts, and ability to protect the rim, Joyner averaged 9.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and over a block per game last season. Her performance in the American Athletic Conference turned heads and quickly made her one of the more coveted names in the transfer portal.
Now, she brings her skillset and determination to Baton Rouge, where expectations are always sky-high under Mulkey. LSU is fresh off another strong campaign and is retooling after losing key players to the WNBA and graduation. Joyner’s addition gives the Tigers a needed presence in the paint and adds more depth to a frontcourt that’s poised to dominate in the SEC.
Mulkey, who has built a reputation for attracting and developing elite talent, praised Joyner’s work ethic and potential. “Amiya fits what we do,” Mulkey said. “She plays hard, wants to get better, and is hungry to win.”
With her “ready to work” attitude, Joyner seems prepared to embrace the grind and contribute to LSU’s winning tradition. Fans should expect to hear her name a lot more when the season tips off.
