Hannah Hidalgo now stands as the lone returning starter from Notre Dame’s 2024-25 women’s basketball team that advanced to the Sweet 16. As the only remaining piece of that starting lineup, Hidalgo finds herself in a pivotal role as the Fighting Irish look to regroup and rebuild heading into the upcoming season.

The 2024-25 squad saw significant changes during the offseason, with multiple starters departing due to graduation, transfers, or pursuing professional opportunities. As a result, Hidalgo becomes the anchor and leader for a team undergoing transition. Known for her intensity, scoring ability, and defensive prowess, she will be tasked with not only maintaining her individual performance but also guiding a largely new group of teammates.

Despite the turnover, Hidalgo remains optimistic. She has embraced the responsibility that comes with being the returning veteran in the starting five. Her experience playing on a national stage during the NCAA Tournament gives her valuable insight that she can share with the newcomers, many of whom are still adjusting to the demands of high-level college basketball.

Head coach Niele Ivey is expected to build the team around Hidalgo’s strengths, recognizing her as both a playmaker and a leader on and off the court. With new faces joining the roster, chemistry and cohesion will be key, and Hidalgo’s leadership will be central to fostering that.

As Notre Dame aims for another deep tournament run, all eyes will be on Hidalgo to step up, not just as a star, but as the core of a new era for Fighting Irish basketball.
