Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is unfazed by rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs’ accidental social media post that revealed some of the team’s protection terminology. During a radio interview on Detroit’s WXYT-FM, Campbell dismissed concerns over the leak, saying, “I don’t really give a crap. If we’re going to lose because of code words, then we’re not good enough anyway.”
The incident occurred when Gibbs shared a photo of fellow Lions running back Jermar Jefferson in front of a whiteboard displaying various terms and responsibilities. Among the visible code words were unusual phrases like “Caitlyn Jenner,” “Khloe Kardashian,” “Julia Roberts,” and “Purple Michigan Wolverine.” Despite the potential exposure of the team’s terminology, Campbell remained unconcerned, joking that they might as well “post the whole fricking playbook out there.”
Campbell further explained that opposing teams already have access to such information through game footage and television broadcasts, making the leak less significant. “It’s all out there. You can find everything you need on the tape to figure out how to attack us or how we’ll attack you,” Campbell said. He admitted he hadn’t been aware of the post until a reporter brought it to his attention during a press conference on Saturday but maintained that the incident wasn’t worth worrying about.
The Lions don’t plan to overhaul their calls or terminology as a result, and Gibbs won’t face any disciplinary action. Campbell emphasized that the situation is minor and won’t impact the team’s performance, adding that it hasn’t caused him any lost sleep.
