Pixies members Joey Santiago and Dave Lovering have openly praised their new bassist, Emma Richardson, while also humorously suggesting that the band would love to open for Oasis if the Gallagher brothers follow through on their Los Angeles reunion next year. Richardson, formerly of Band of Skulls, joined Pixies as their bassist this year, replacing Paz Lenchantin. Her debut album with the group, The Night The Zombies Came, has just been released, marking Pixies’ 10th studio record. Classic Rock magazine praised the album, noting its “honed precision” in delivering powerful tracks.
Santiago and Lovering are enthusiastic about what Richardson brings to the band, with Lovering describing the new lineup as “wonderful.” He told NME that Richardson not only excels in her bass playing but also in her vocals, inspiring the rest of the band to perform at their best. According to Lovering, her presence has elevated Pixies to a “different level,” adding depth and dynamism to their sound.
Santiago recalled how they connected with Richardson through The Night The Zombies Came producer, Tom Dalgety. Intrigued by her talent, Santiago researched Richardson’s previous work with Band of Skulls. After viewing several of her performances and interviews, he was convinced of her skill and presence, remarking that she brings a unique energy to Pixies. Both Santiago and Lovering agree that Richardson’s addition marks an exciting new chapter for the band, with her influence resonating strongly through their latest album.
