With the NBA season concluded and the WNBA season on hold, the basketball community is shifting its attention to the Paris Olympics. The USA Basketball team, boasting one of its most talented rosters in recent history, is expected to face fierce competition from other international teams. Among the notable international NBA stars is Slovenian guard Luka Doncic, widely considered one of the league’s top players. Despite leading his Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals, Doncic was unable to secure a spot in the Olympics for Slovenia, as they were defeated by Greece in the qualifying tournament.
Although Doncic won’t compete in the Olympics this summer, his achievements in the NBA by age 25 have already placed him among the best players of his generation. ESPN’s recent announcement on Thursday highlighted this by awarding Doncic the 25th and final spot on their list of the best 21st-century NBA players. Over his six NBA seasons, Doncic has averaged 28.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game. His impressive career so far includes five All-Star selections and multiple All-NBA team honors.
ESPN’s lists often spark significant debate in the sports community, and Doncic’s inclusion alongside more seasoned players has generated considerable discussion. Nevertheless, his exceptional performance, particularly in the latest playoffs, makes a strong case for his place on the list.
