Hendrick Motorsports has implemented key personnel changes to Chase Elliott’s No. 9 team in a bid to revitalize his 2025 NASCAR Cup Series campaign, which has so far fallen short of expectations. According to a report from Express US Sport, the team has made a strategic crew swap that was confirmed by NASCAR insider Bob Pockrass on May 16, 2025. The change involves a switch of rear tire changers between Elliott’s crew and that of Justin Haley. Calvin Teague, formerly part of Kyle Larson’s pit crew, has joined Elliott’s team, while Chad Avrit has been reassigned to Haley’s No. 51 entry.
This isn’t the only adjustment Hendrick Motorsports is considering. There is growing speculation that Adam Wall, who currently serves as crew chief for the No. 17 car in the Xfinity Series, may be in line to take over as crew chief for Elliott. Wall’s name has gained traction following his standout performance leading Larson to a commanding Xfinity Series win at Bristol. Although Elliott has expressed public confidence in his long-time crew chief Alan Gustafson, fan dissatisfaction has intensified after a series of pit road blunders. A notable example was a 14-second pit stop at Kansas Speedway that derailed Elliott’s race and drew criticism.
As Elliott sits 15th in the points standings, Hendrick Motorsports is clearly looking for ways to elevate his performance. With playoff contention on the line, these personnel shifts aim to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and give Elliott a stronger chance to compete at a higher level as the season progresses.
