Kurt Busch, the 2004 NASCAR Cup Series champion, recently explored a new kind of competition—this time, off the racetrack and out on the water. The former racing star took part in his very first fishing tournament in South Florida, marking a major departure from his usual high-speed pursuits. Partnering with Two Conchs Charters, a respected fishing charter service based in Marathon in the Florida Keys, Busch joined a team to compete in what’s believed to be the Tom Thumb Bull and Cow Dolphin Offshore Tournament.
During the event, Busch and his crew focused on reeling in mahi-mahi, a vibrant and fast-swimming fish also known as the dolphin fish. The experience was a refreshing shift from the adrenaline-fueled NASCAR environment, yet it still carried that same competitive spirit that Busch thrives on. He documented the event on social media, posting photos of the day’s catches and thanking his supporters, including Monster Energy and Tom Thumb Food Stores, both of whom sponsored his efforts during the tournament.
In one of his posts, Busch enthusiastically expressed appreciation for the guidance he received from Two Conchs and mentioned how much fun he had embracing the challenge. “First time jumping into a fishing tournament,” he wrote. “Thanks to @twoconchs for excellent guidance and professionalism. @monsterenergy was on board, and local Florida Keys convenience stores @mytomthumbstore made it a success.”
This new venture comes as Busch continues to stay active and adventurous following his retirement from full-time racing. His interest in competitive fishing is more than a hobby—it’s a new chapter that still fuels his love for competition. With his name also on the ballot for the 2026 NASCAR Hall of Fame class, Busch’s legacy continues to grow, both within motorsports and in new arenas.
