Whitwell and Oncins Capture Mixed Doubles Title at APP $150K NYC Open, Cement Top Spot on Champions Tour

A huge congratulations is in order for Lee Whitwell and Jaime Oncins, who have claimed the mixed doubles crown at the prestigious APP $150,000 New York City Open. The top-ranked duo on the APP Champions Tour (50+) showcased their elite form by defeating Spencer Moorman and Jose Derisi in straight games, 11-8, 11-9, to secure the championship.

This marks the sixth official stop on the APP/AARP Champions Tour for 2025, and Whitwell and Oncins’ victory not only earned them gold but also a cash prize of $4,000. More importantly, they gained 900 critical ranking points as the NYC Open is categorized as a Tier I event, making it a highly influential stop in the race for the year-end rankings.

Moorman and Derisi, who finished as runners-up, took home $2,200 for their efforts, while third place went to the team of A. Fink and Y. Bouzidi, earning $1,600. The fourth-place finishers, A. Strippoli and M. Jardim, walked away with $1,000. Meanwhile, CB Lee and M. Porcelli claimed fifth and earned $500, tying with sixth-place finishers C. Domoracki and M. Morariu, who also received $500.

With the New York event now in the books, all eyes turn to the next destination: Southern California. The APP $150,000 Newport Beach Open, set for July 2–6, promises more elite competition and ranking opportunities as the Champions Tour continues its exciting 2025 campaign.
