The Tennessee basketball community, the Lady Volunteers have officially welcomed back Chamique Holdsclaw, one of the most legendary players in program history, as their newest assistant coach. The announcement, made just moments ago, marks a homecoming for the former Lady Vols superstar, who helped define the program’s legacy under the legendary Pat Summitt.
Holdsclaw, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in women’s college basketball history, led Tennessee to three consecutive national championships (1996–1998) and was a two-time Naismith College Player of the Year. After a decorated career in the WNBA and international basketball, she now returns to Knoxville, ready to mentor the next generation of Lady Vols.
“I’m home,” an emotional Holdsclaw said during the press conference. “Tennessee shaped me into the player and person I am today. It’s an honor to come back and help lead this program to even greater heights.”
Her arrival brings not just experience, but also a deep understanding of the winning culture and championship mentality that defined the Lady Vols for decades. Head coach Kellie Harper expressed excitement about Holdsclaw’s addition, emphasizing her ability to develop players, inspire leadership, and elevate the team’s competitive edge.
With Holdsclaw now on the coaching staff, the Lady Vols are poised to build on their storied tradition. Her presence is expected to bring a renewed energy, a championship mindset, and a connection to the program’s legendary past.
