Why Red Sox and Yankees ‘Connected’ To 44-Homer Slugger Looking For $100 Million Deal to Replace…..

The Boston Red Sox are looking to strengthen their lineup with more power before Spring Training begins. While their 2025 roster already boasts solid pitching and promising offensive talent, the lineup remains overly reliant on left-handed hitters. Adding a right-handed slugger could elevate their offense to an elite level.

One of the most discussed free-agent targets for Boston is Alex Bregman. However, another name gaining traction is former Baltimore Orioles star Anthony Santander. According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, Santander has also drawn interest from other teams, including the New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, and Los Angeles Angels.

“Santander is believed to be seeking a five-year deal worth at least $100 million,” Feinsand reported. “Although his defense is below average, his power can significantly enhance any lineup. The 30-year-old earned his first All-Star selection and a Silver Slugger Award in 2024, making him one of the best remaining free agents.”

Santander would fit well in Boston, particularly as a potential replacement for Tyler O’Neill. However, the team faces an outfield surplus, with young prospect Roman Anthony poised for a major league debut. This raises questions about whether the Red Sox are willing to commit to such a significant deal for Santander.

At this stage, Bregman appears to be the more probable target, but nothing is certain until contracts are finalized. As the market unfolds, Boston’s decisions will play a key role in shaping their chances for success in the 2025 season.
