The New York Yankees are reportedly considering using Cody Bellinger as their center fielder, allowing Aaron Judge to move back to his natural position in right field. However, Bellinger could still be an option at first base. The team is also pursuing Pete Alonso to solidify the first base role, which would allow top prospect Jasson Dominguez to showcase his potential in the outfield.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman is eager to give Dominguez, the team’s No. 1 prospect, a chance to prove himself. Despite limited MLB experience with only 26 games, the 21-year-old outfielder has shown promise. In 58 minor league games last season, Dominguez posted an impressive .314 batting average and an .880 OPS. While his defense needs improvement, Dominguez’s five-tool potential and youth make him a high-upside player heading into 2025.
Bellinger, meanwhile, is coming off a mediocre season with a .751 OPS, slightly above average. Though he is being paid like an elite player, his versatility in the field offers the Yankees flexibility. Pairing him with Alonso could create one of the most potent lineups in baseball. Alonso, who has been one of the league’s top power hitters since 2019, hit 30 or more home runs in every full season and is remarkably durable. His addition would fill a void at first base the Yankees have struggled with since Mark Teixeira’s retirement.
The Yankees have already made key moves this offseason, acquiring closer Devin Williams from the Brewers and signing ace Max Fried to a long-term deal. Adding Alonso alongside Judge, Stanton, Bellinger, and Dominguez could solidify the Yankees as American League favorites in 2025.
