Mitchell Barnett, Addin Fonua-Blake, Te Maire Martin, and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck from the New Zealand Warriors have been named among 64 players from the other 16 NRL clubs as contenders for the 2024 Players’ Champion award. This prestigious award, highly respected in the NRL community, is determined by votes from the players themselves, highlighting the esteem in which the winner is held by their peers.
Warriors’ halfback Shaun Johĺnson, who narrowly missed out on the Dally M Medal last year by just one point, claimed the Players’ Champion title instead, further cementing his reputation in the league. The selection process for this accolade involves each club’s RLPA (Rugby League Players Association) player leaders, who nominate four players from their teams as candidates for the award.
This year, a total of 68 players have been shortlisted across the league, and the voting process is now open to all NRL players. The winner will be revealed on October 6, coinciding with the NRL grand final day, adding to the excitement and significance of the occasion. The inclusion of Warriors players in this list of contenders reflects their strong performances and contributions throughout the season.
