Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson has once again addressed the ongoing contract situation surrounding halfback Sam Walker, who has yet to secure his future with the club. Walker could potentially be open to offers from rival clubs starting November 1 as negotiations with the Roosters continue.
According to Michael Chammas from the Sydney Morning Herald and 9news, Roosters chairman Nick Politis is planning to meet with Walker’s father, Ben, in Queensland to discuss the matter. Additionally, the Roosters have reportedly granted Walker’s manager informal permission to gauge the player’s market value by exploring offers from other clubs. Chammas noted that the Roosters value Walker at around one million dollars, but there seems to be a difference in opinion between the club and Walker’s camp regarding his worth.
With the Roosters preparing for their upcoming match against the Titans on Sunday and actively pursuing the premiership, Robinson made it clear on Friday that he is currently uninterested in discussing Walker’s contract. He emphasized his focus on the immediate task at hand, saying, “I care about Sunday, that’s all I care about.” Robinson acknowledged that contract talks have likely been paused and clarified that he is not directly involved in those discussions, preferring to concentrate on the team’s current performance and their upcoming games.
