Latest News: Caitlin Clark Makes History In WNBA Return Against Phoenix Mercury after…..

On Friday night, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever returned to action against the Phoenix Mercury following the WNBA break. The Fever had already won the first two games in their season series, and after securing a 98-89 victory, they advanced to a 3-0 record against the Mercury.

Indiana came out strong in the first quarter, quickly establishing a double-digit lead. Clark was instrumental in this early surge, sinking a difficult three-pointer and completing two and-ones to set the tone.

Before the first quarter even ended, Clark made WNBA history once again. With 6:53 left in the first quarter, she scored her second field goal of the game, bringing her season total to 450 points. This milestone made her the first rookie to achieve both 450 or more points and 200 or more assists in a season. Additionally, Clark became only the sixth player in WNBA history to reach these numbers in a single season, according to StatMamba.

Clark’s remarkable rookie season continues to grow. She received the most votes for the WNBA All-Star game and set a new record for most assists by a rookie in an All-Star game with ten. Moreover, she became the only rookie in WNBA history to record a triple-double and, just before the month-long break, shattered the record for most assists in a single game with 19.

Clark’s leadership has propelled the Fever to a 12-15 record through their first 27 games, putting them on track for their first WNBA playoff appearance since 2016.
