Tragic loss for New York Rangers : Star player die few miniter ago
Former NHL player Chris Simon, 52, has died by suicide, his family confirmed. Simon, who had a long struggle with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), was remembered as a beloved son, brother, father, and teammate. The family, asking for privacy during this difficult time, expressed that they believe his CTE contributed to his death.
Simon, known for his tough on-ice persona, played 15 NHL seasons from 1993 to 2008, accumulating over 1,800 penalty minutes and more than 100 fights. Despite his aggressive style, Simon was remembered by friends and former teammates as a kind and caring individual off the ice. He won the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 1996 and was a respected figure among First Nations hockey players in Canada.
Simon’s career included stints with multiple NHL teams, including Colorado, Washington, Calgary, and New York, as well as five seasons in the KHL before his retirement in 2013. While he occasionally faced disciplinary actions, his contributions to his teams and the sport were significant.
