The Green Bay Packers have officially signed a young talent under 21, who will join the team soon. Meanwhile, running back Aaron Jones, after being released by the Packers, has signed a one-year, $7 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings made this move after releasing Alexander Mattison and now plan to use Jones alongside Ty Chandler. Although Jones had injury struggles in 2023, his experience makes him a valuable addition, though he may no longer be relied on as a full-time starter.
With Kirk Cousins leaving the Vikings for the Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota signed Sam Darnold to a one-year, $10 million contract. Darnold, likely the Week 1 starter, was once a top draft pick but has yet to perform consistently in the NFL. The Vikings may still draft a quarterback to develop as their long-term starter.
Additionally, the Vikings signed former Houston Texans linebacker Jonathan Greenard to a four-year, $72 million deal. Greenard, a younger and ascending player, is expected to replace Danielle Hunter. Despite his talent, Greenard’s durability is a concern, as he has never played a full NFL season.
The Vikings also signed linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel to a two-year, $20 million deal. Van Ginkel, who played under Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores in Miami, is expected to complement Greenard well, though his health will be monitored due to a foot injury suffered in 2023.
