The Atlanta Hawks have provided updates on the injuries of centers Onyeka Okongwu and Clint Capela. Okongwu was forced to leave the game against Chicago last night due to a toe injury. Today, the Hawks issued a statement addressing the status of both players.
Clint Capela is making progress in his recovery from a left adductor strain. He won’t be playing in tomorrow’s game against Charlotte but is expected to return to practice after the All-Star break.
Onyeka Okongwu, who exited last night’s game in the fourth quarter with a left big toe injury, underwent an X-ray at State Farm Arena and an MRI at Emory Sports Medicine Complex. He has been diagnosed with a left big toe sprain and will be out for tomorrow’s game in Charlotte. His condition will be re-evaluated in 7 to 10 days.
Additionally, guards AJ Griffin and Wesley Matthews will miss tomorrow’s game due to illness.
Head coach Quin Snyder commented on Okongwu’s injury last night. The Hawks will be without their two centers for the game against Charlotte, but the upcoming All-Star break could allow both players to recover in time. For tomorrow’s game, the Hawks may need to start Bruno Fernando or play a smaller lineup.
