Done Deal: Tottenham complete £65m deal for striker Solanke after….

Tottenham Hotspur has signed Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth for an initial fee of £55 million, with an additional £10 million in potential add-ons. The 26-year-old striker has committed to a contract with Spurs until 2030. Solanke, who has earned one cap for the England national team, becomes Tottenham’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Yang Min-hyuk, Lucas Bergvall, and Archie Gray.

In his first interview with Spurs TV, Solanke expressed his excitement about joining Tottenham, highlighting the club’s ambitions and the alignment of those ambitions with his own goals. He praised the club’s stature, the quality of the players, and the leadership of manager Ange Postecoglou, stating that he believes Spurs’ style of play will suit him well.

Tottenham has been actively seeking to bolster their attacking options since the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer, and Solanke is seen as a key addition to their squad. Solanke’s move to Bournemouth in 2019 from Liverpool was valued at £19 million, and Liverpool reportedly has a 20% sell-on clause on any profit made from his transfer.

Solanke had a standout season in 2023-24, scoring 21 goals in 42 appearances, which marked the best season of his career to date. He is expected to be present at Spurs’ upcoming pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich at Tottenham Stadium, and he could make his Premier League debut for his new club in their opening fixture against Leicester City on August 19.

Solanke began his career in the youth system at Chelsea, where he won the FA Youth Cup twice. However, he made only one senior appearance for the Blues and spent the 2015-16 season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem. After leaving Chelsea, he joined Liverpool in May 2017 but struggled to make a significant impact, scoring just one goal in 27 appearances.

Internationally, Solanke was a key player for England’s Under-20 team, helping them win the Under-20 World Cup in 2017 and earning the tournament’s Player of the Tournament award. Since joining Bournemouth, he has scored 77 goals in 216 appearances. Bournemouth’s chief executive, Neill Blake, acknowledged Solanke’s contribution to the club and noted that it was unsurprising that a club of Tottenham’s stature would be interested in the striker. Blake remarked that Bournemouth had anticipated the possibility of Solanke attracting interest from larger clubs when they initially signed him five years ago.
