The New York Giants concluded their ninth practice of training camp on Sunday, marking their second session in full pads. They are set to engage in joint practices with the Detroit Lions on Monday and Tuesday before facing them in a preseason game next Thursday. While Sunday’s practice was mostly a half walk-through, there were some notable takeaways.
Quarterback Daniel Jones had a solid performance during live team periods, completing 9 of 11 passes, including a touchdown and an interception. The interception, made by safety Jason Pinnock, occurred on the sixth play of the first drive. Jones, who was perfect on his first five passes, aimed for tight end Daniel Bellinger, but the high throw was tipped, allowing Pinnock to make the play. Pinnock had also recorded an interception on Friday, demonstrating his strong form in camp.
Jones’ touchdown pass was unconventional and might have been a sack by Brian Burns in a real game scenario, a situation that has recurred throughout camp. Due to a mix of busted coverage, snap miscommunication, and collapsing pass protection, Jones managed to connect with Wan’Dale Robinson for an easy 50-yard touchdown. Despite the likelihood of a sack in a real game, the play served as a confidence boost for both Jones and Robinson as they approach the joint practices with Detroit.
