He hopeful that he and the Green Bay Packers will agree on a long-term contract before training camp begins next month.
“I’ve heard positive things,” the 25-year-old quarterback said on Tuesday at the start of the Packers’ minicamp.
Love had signed a one-year extension last May, guaranteeing him $13.5 million, with an additional $9 million in incentives. He has been eligible to sign a new extension since May 3, the anniversary of his last deal.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst mentioned on a Milwaukee radio station last week that the team aims to finalize an extension before training camp starts.
The first training camp workout is scheduled for July 22, coinciding with the NFL’s only publicly owned franchise’s annual shareholders meeting.
Love enjoys staying updated on the negotiations.
“Yeah, I like being involved,” Love said.
As a first-year starter last season, Love completed 64.2% of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, leading the NFL’s youngest team to a 10-9 record and the NFC divisional playoffs.
The 2020 first-round pick from Utah State threw 22 touchdown passes and one interception in a nine-game stretch that ended with a 48-32 upset against the Dallas Cowboys in a wild-card game.
Love sees room for improvement.
“The main focus for me is decision-making, avoiding forced throws, and pocket movement,” Love said. “I’ve been working on staying in the pocket longer and improving my throws on the move.”
NOTES: Safety Xavier McKinney and cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Keisean Nixon were absent from Tuesday’s practice due to excused absences after participating in organized team activities. Coach Matt LaFleur noted their commendable effort in fulfilling workout requirements. The Packers also introduced a giant video screen on the sideline for practice replays, a technique adopted from other teams.
