Daniel Suárez, the 32-year-old driver of the No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet in the NASCAR Cup Series, will utilize the multi-week break during the 2024 Summer Olympics to compete in the NASCAR Brasil Sprint Race on August 3-4 at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace in São Paulo, Brazil. This event marks Stage 5 of the 2024 NASCAR Brasil Sprint Race calendar, with the season finale scheduled for November. Suárez, who has strong ties to Brazil through his fiancée Julia Piquet and his regular participation in endurance races there since 2015, expressed his excitement about racing at the historic Interlagos track.
Suárez highlighted the significance of Brazil in his life, mentioning his deep connection with the country, his familiarity with its motorsport culture, and his impending wedding in Brazil to Julia, the daughter of three-time Formula One World Champion Nelson Piquet. He described the opportunity to race in Brazil as a “no-brainer” and felt fortunate to have the chance to compete there.
Chad Seigler, Vice President and Chief International Officer at NASCAR, echoed Suárez’s enthusiasm, noting that Suárez’s participation brings international exposure to NASCAR and serves as an inspiration for young drivers aspiring to race in the United States. Seigler emphasized the importance of showcasing stock-car and NASCAR-style racing globally.
In 2024, Suárez, who became the first Mexican-born driver to win a Cup Series race with his 2022 victory at Sonoma Raceway, has already enjoyed a memorable year. He has secured one win, two top-five finishes, and three top-ten finishes in the current Cup Series season and was sworn in as a U.S. citizen in June. The couple’s wedding plans were adjusted to accommodate Suárez’s race entry, reflecting their shared passion for racing.
