Sad News: Chandler Smith, Sam Mayer exchange words after Xfinity race at Pocono

Chandler Smith and Sam Mayer had a heated exchange following the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Pocono Raceway. Smith, who finished 15th, was upset with Mayer, who finished 10th, for what he perceived as aggressive racing tactics. Smith confronted Mayer, still in his car, accusing him of nearly causing multiple wrecks, including one involving Shane van Gisbergen. Mayer admitted fault for bumping van Gisbergen, leading to a spin, but was surprised by Smith’s anger.

Mayer dismissed Smith’s complaints, suggesting Smith couldn’t handle tough racing. Mayer saw nothing unusual about their side-by-side battles and expressed frustration at Smith’s approach to the confrontation. Smith, normally respectful of Mayer, reached a breaking point, now understanding why others in the garage were often frustrated with Mayer. Despite their disagreements, both drivers managed to finish in the top 15, while van Gisbergen ended up 31st due to the incident.
