The WNBA regular season will take a break on July 18 for the Summer Olympics. Kristy Wallace of the Indiana Fever will represent Australia in Paris, although the Fever won’t have any players on Team USA. Wallace recently learned of her selection and was deeply moved, describing herself as a “bag of tears” upon receiving the news. She is among 27 WNBA players named to their respective national Olympic teams as of July 8, with the potential for this number to rise as three participating teams have yet to announce their rosters.
Wallace, reflecting on her achievement, said it has been a lifelong dream. “To finally get my name called up into the team was a really special moment… I was just a bag of tears,” she shared with ClutchPoints Indiana Fever beat writer Matthew Byrne. During the 2024 season, Wallace has averaged 5 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, starting 15 of 21 games for Indiana. However, Katie Lou Samuelson has taken over Wallace’s starting role, playing alongside Caitlin Clark for most of the season.
This will be the 28-year-old guard’s first Olympic appearance. Australia’s first game in the Paris Olympics is scheduled against Nigeria on July 29. After the Olympics, the WNBA will resume its season on August 14.
