Caitlin Clark delivered an impressive performance in Sunday’s 88-82 victory over the Phoenix Mercury, scoring 15 points and dishing out 12 assists over 39 minutes. While these stats are fairly typical for the rookie standout, they gain added significance when considering that Clark was battling a migraine throughout the game. This detail was shared postgame by Fever head coach Christie Sides on Sunday.
Ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces, Clark discussed her ongoing struggles with migraines. She explained that adrenaline helps her cope during games, but once the action stops, the pain intensifies. “Adrenaline does a lot of it for me,” Clark said regarding her migraines. “And once the game stops, that’s like, that’s when I really feel it. And it’s hard.”
Clark revealed that she has suffered from migraines since childhood and has developed ways to manage them while maintaining her athletic career. “But honestly, I’ve suffered from them since I was a young kid,” Clark said, according to Scott Agness. “So I’ve found a way to manage them and still go about my business… but there’s a lot of problems in the world. I’m lucky mine is just migraines.”
She also noted that the energetic atmosphere during Sunday’s game exacerbated her migraine. Despite this chronic issue, Clark’s ability to perform at a high level is commendable. Her determination and resilience, even when facing such a persistent and debilitating problem, highlight her strength and dedication to the sport. The Hawkeye icon continues to inspire by pushing through adversity and delivering standout performances on the court.
