Following a strong season in Detroit, where he posted 48 receptions for 740 yards and six touchdowns, Reynolds joined the Broncos on a two-year, $9 million deal.
This acquisition underscores the team’s recognition of Reynolds’ capabilities and the depth he can bring to the receiver room. He is seen as a potential solid No. 3 option, with hopes he can rise to a No. 2 role. Reynolds’ ability to excel in Sean Payton’s offense, particularly if Bo Nix performs well, positions him as a valuable signing. His proficiency in route running and speed variation addresses the Broncos’ needs, making him a better fit than Jeudy, especially in terms of quickly getting off the line of scrimmage and contributing as a blocker.
With Marvin Mims Jr. expected to fill Jeudy’s slot role, Reynolds is intended for a different position, given his tendency to line up outside 65% of the time in Detroit. The futures of Tim Patrick and Courtland Sutton will significantly influence Reynolds’ role. Patrick has impressed in offseason practice, but his ability to stay healthy remains a concern. Sutton, who skipped voluntary workouts seeking a new contract, has been involved in trade rumors, and the Broncos might still trade him to save cap space.
Reynolds not only provides reliable depth but also offers insurance. If Patrick gets injured again or Mims doesn’t progress as needed, Reynolds is a viable option. His presence gives Payton and the Broncos flexibility in their efforts to revitalize their receiver group.
