Breaking: Cormac Izuchukwu has announce is intentions to join the call-up from……

Cormac Izuchukwu, Ulster’s flanker, revealed that informing his mother about his call-up to the Ireland squad was “one of the best calls (he’s) ever had.” Izuchukwu is set to play a significant role in Ireland’s summer tour of South Africa. The Tullamore native may earn his first international cap against the reigning world champion Springboks, having impressed head coach Andy Farrell towards the end of the last season.

Izuchukwu’s standout performances under new Ulster head coach Richie Murphy earned him his first call-up to the Ireland team, having previously represented the country at Sevens level. Reflecting on the moment, Izuchukwu said, “To be even considered for Ireland is unbelievable. When I got the email, I was over the moon. Phoning my mam and hearing her happiness was one of the best phone calls I’ve ever had.” He also received numerous congratulations from his club, Ballynahinch, which made the experience even more special.

Initially a bit-part player under Dan McFarland, Izuchukwu was transformed into a key performer under Murphy’s guidance, moving from lock to blindside flanker. This shift allowed him more freedom and led to him becoming one of Ulster’s most potent ball carriers and influential players.

Izuchukwu had previously played for Ireland in South Africa during an Emerging Ireland tour two years ago, giving him some experience of playing in the southern hemisphere. He hopes to solidify his place in the senior squad beyond this summer, especially with the first Test in Pretoria on July 6. He acknowledged the challenge ahead, noting South Africa’s physicality and passionate fans, and expressed his determination to make his mark.
