Lewis Hamilton remarked that Mercedes’ resurgence to competing at the forefront of the F1 grid had been a “long time coming” following their impressive performance at the Spanish Grand Prix. The team secured the entire second row, with Hamilton achieving his best qualifying result of what has been a disappointing season for him. Hamilton described his third-place qualification as “beautiful,” trailing only behind Lando Norris, who took pole position, and Max Verstappen, who secured second, for the start of Sunday’s race at 2pm at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Hamilton also managed to out-qualify his teammate, George Russell, who had previously taken pole position at the Canadian Grand Prix, marking a significant milestone in Mercedes’ overdue revival. This was only the second time this season that Hamilton had outpaced Russell, finishing just 0.002 seconds ahead. For the first time since last October’s Qatar Grand Prix, both Mercedes drivers will start a race within the top four.
Reflecting on this achievement, a hopeful Hamilton stated, “It has been a long time coming for us as a team,” underscoring the team’s collective effort and patience in returning to a competitive form.
