Max Verstappen is firmly establishing himself as a dominant force in Formula One, following his recent triumph at the Canadian Grand Prix. Despite facing significant competition from George Russell and Lando Norris, the Red Bull driver successfully secured his 60th career win in fewer than 200 races. This victory not only adds to his impressive record but also cements his place in history as the youngest driver to achieve 60 wins, reaching this milestone at just 26 years, eight months, and 11 days. This is notably six years younger than Lewis Hamilton, who was 32 when he secured his 60th win.
Furthermore, Verstappen’s accomplishment is even more remarkable considering he needed eight fewer races than Hamilton to reach this number. Apart from Hamilton, the only other driver to have 60 wins is Michael Schumacher, who achieved it at the age of 33. Verstappen now sets his sights on surpassing both Schumacher and Hamilton in the total number of Grand Prix wins. Hamilton currently holds the record with 103 wins, 12 more than Schumacher. Verstappen needs 44 more wins to claim the top spot, a target that seems achievable given his current form and age.
While Hamilton might continue to add to his tally with Mercedes this year and Ferrari starting in 2025, Verstappen remains focused on winning each race and accumulating world titles, rather than on breaking specific records. He has previously stated that Hamilton has no reason to be concerned about his own achievements. “No, I don’t think he (Hamilton) needs to look over his shoulder,” Verstappen commented last year after surpassing Sebastian Vettel for third place on the all-time wins list. “He has achieved so much in the sport.” This statement reflects Verstappen’s respect for Hamilton’s accomplishments and his own drive to make his mark in Formula One history.
