George Russell clinched pole position for the Canadian Grand Prix in a remarkable session for Mercedes. The British driver outpaced Max Verstappen, even though the Dutchman astonishingly set the exact same lap time.

Russell initially secured the provisional P1 in Q3 with a lap time of 1m 12.000s. Despite Verstappen’s improvements in the final decisive laps, the Red Bull driver could only match Russell’s time, placing him in second.

Lando Norris narrowly missed pole by 0.021 seconds, securing third place for McLaren. His teammate Oscar Piastri will start from the second row in fourth, followed by Daniel Ricciardo in fifth for Red Bull, celebrating 10 years since his first F1 victory at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.

Fernando Alonso took sixth position for Aston Martin, while Lewis Hamilton, who showed strong pace earlier in the session, ended up seventh for Mercedes. Yuki Tsunoda, whose seat at Red Bull for 2025 was confirmed just before qualifying, claimed eighth place. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Williams’ Alex Albon completed the top ten.
