Packers hope to extend QB Jordan Love’s contract before camp
The Green Bay Packers aim to secure their franchise quarterback, Jordan Love, with a long-term deal before training camp begins. Last season, they extended Love’s contract by one year for $13.5 million, making him the starting quarterback. Love delivered a strong performance, completing 64.2% of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Now, the Packers are negotiating a longer contract with him. General Manager Brian Gutekunst mentioned on Milwaukee’s 97.3 The Game that both parties are eager to finalize the deal before training camp. Although these negotiations are typically slow, the mutual interest should facilitate the process. Love, 25, has been active in voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) despite not having an extension yet. Training camp starts in just over a month, and under his current contract, Love will earn $11 million in 2024, significantly less than the market rate for top quarterbacks. Drafted 26th overall in 2020 from Utah State, Love played sparingly in his first two seasons before becoming the starter in 2023. Last season, he led the Packers to a 9-8 record and the NFC divisional round, where they were defeated by the San Francisco 49ers.
