Sad Report: Lewis Hamilton feel bad about George Russell progress to…..See more

The Monaco Grand Prix, Russell extended his lead over Hamilton to 7-1 in their head-to-head qualifying matchups for the season. Hamilton suggested that his younger teammate might continue to outperform him in qualifying this year, attributing Russell’s success to certain upgrades he had received. Hamilton, set to depart from the Silver Arrows at the end of the season and join Ferrari in 2025 on a multi-year deal, remains focused on maintaining strong race performances despite the qualifying setbacks.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff addressed Hamilton’s comments, acknowledging that drivers can sometimes be skeptical and competitive, especially in challenging situations. He emphasized that the team strives to be transparent and fair, ensuring both drivers receive the best possible cars, strategies, and support. Wolff expressed understanding of Hamilton’s perspective, noting that it’s natural for drivers to seek the best outcomes for themselves and the team, which can lead to questioning decisions when things don’t go their way.

Wolff also commented on the late-race communication mishap during the Monaco Grand Prix, where Hamilton was frustrated about not being instructed to push sooner in an attempt to undercut Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Hamilton pitted from seventh place, switching to hard tires, while Verstappen responded a lap later, leaving their positions unchanged. Wolff admitted that the team had miscommunicated, providing Hamilton with a confusing and ultimately wrong message regarding his out-lap strategy. The error stemmed from concerns about tire performance over a single lap and the race’s later stages, but Wolff took responsibility, stating it was the team’s fault.

Regarding Hamilton’s relationship with the team as they approach the end of their partnership, Wolff highlighted their efforts to maximize results in the final season together. He acknowledged that tensions can arise between drivers and teams, but both parties are committed to achieving the best possible outcomes during their remaining time together.
