The Los Angeles Rams have signed Darious Williams to a three-year contract worth $22.5 million during free agency. However, the structure of the contract essentially means that Williams is guaranteed $7 million for one season.
If Williams performs exceptionally well and outperforms the contract’s value, the Rams will retain him for 2025. If not, the team will likely release him due to salary cap constraints, as they have limited alternatives for saving money.
Previously, I mentioned that the Rams did not overpay for Williams, and securing a cornerback of his quality with a cap hit under $5 million in 2024 is a good deal. The contract also provides the Rams with the flexibility to release Williams if he does not perform at a Pro Bowl level. This approach allows the Rams to evaluate Williams’ performance while managing their financial commitments effectively.
