Tottenham Hotspur have been advised to pursue a leading Bundesliga striker, who made a significant impact in the Champions League this season, as manager Ange Postecoglou seeks to enhance the team’s attacking options. Postecoglou has prioritized the acquisition of a top-notch No.9 this summer after observing his squad squander numerous scoring opportunities, potentially costing them a top-four finish. Although Ricarlison showed some improvement over his previous lackluster season, there is a prevailing sentiment that he may not elevate the club to the desired level. Speculations about Ricarlison’s possible move to Saudi Arabia further fuel the expectation that Tottenham will invest heavily in a replacement.
The striker under consideration is RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda, identified by Spurs insider John Wenham as an ideal fit for Postecoglou’s attacking trio. Openda, a Belgium international, has already caught Tottenham’s attention, alongside other prospects like Ivan Toney, Dominic Solanke, Santiago Gimenez, and Porto’s Evanilson.
Wenham, impressed by Openda’s performances in the Champions League, particularly his two goals against Manchester City at The Etihad, considers the 24-year-old a robust option for Tottenham. In an interview with Tottenham News, Wenham highlighted Openda’s blend of speed and finishing skills, suggesting he could also play out wide, making him an intriguing replacement for Ricarlison. Wenham emphasized that Openda would be his top choice.
Openda had an impressive season with Leipzig, scoring 28 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions, contributing to the team’s fourth-place Bundesliga finish and subsequent Champions League qualification. Despite his potential, acquiring Openda will be costly, with his price tag estimated at around £75 million, amid interest from other Premier League giants like Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea.
