Detroit Tigers Starting Pitcher Continues Tremendous Season With Great Start On May 25
Detroit Tigers Starting Pitcher Reese Olson continues to impress during the 2024 regular season. He put forth a masterful performance on Saturday afternoon at home against the Toronto Blue Jays as Detroit won a low-scoring affair, 2-1. He tossed 6.2 scoreless innings while striking out four. Olson escaped a bases-loaded jam unscathed in the top of the fifth inning by getting Blue Jays Designated Hitter Justin Turner to strikeout and end the threat.
The Detroit Tigers bullpen surrendered only three hits over 2.2 innings in relief of Olson. Olson lowered his ERA to a minuscule 1.92(fifth-best in MLB) following today’s start and picked up his first win of the year. The 24-year old right hander has gotten no help whatsoever from his offense as he has struggled all season to get run support. Olson has seven starts this season surrendering two earned runs or fewer this season that have resulted in either a loss or a no decision.
Olson is 1-5 this season with an ERA of 1.92. Will he be able to keep up his tremendous level of production?
It has been a disappointing season thus far in the “Motor City” for the Tigers. They sit in fourth place in the American League Central with a record of 25-27. The team has won two straight against the Toronto Blue Jays, but before that had lost eight of their last 10 games. Detroit’s offense has struggled this season as they are 23rd in batting average, second to last in home runs, and 20th in runs scored.
The Detroit Tigers’ pitching staff has been far better than their offense up until this point in the season. Their staff is 10th in ERA, fifth in Quality Starts, and have surrendered the eighth-fewest home runs.
