The 72-year-old former world champion is dealing with complications from an atrioventricular blockade. In their statement, the family mentioned they are awaiting further test results before providing additional updates on his health status.
Expressing gratitude, Duran’s family thanked relatives, friends, and fans for their prayers and support during this difficult time. Roberto Duran, a Panamanian native, is celebrated as one of the greatest lightweight boxers in history, having secured world titles across four weight divisions. He began his professional boxing career at just 16 years old and eventually became the undisputed and lineal lightweight champion.
Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the World Boxing Council, shared on social media that Duran is being treated at a hospital in Panama.
