West Virginia football gains offensive line commit from familiar high school in Class of 2025
West Virginia football landed another commitment from a Class of 2025 recruit on Wednesday, this one coming from a school that is turning into a bit of a pipeline program for the Mountaineers.
Gavin Crawford, a 6’4, 300-pound three-star prospect from Good Counsel High School (MD) announced on social media Wednesday that he has committed to WVU, where he will join former high school teammate and Class of 2024 offensive lineman Kyle Altuner as well as current teammate and fellow Class of 2025 three-star prospect and WVU commit Eidan Buchanan.
Crawford sat down with Rivals National Recruiting Analyst Adam Friedman on Wednesday to discuss his decision to attend WVU.
“They have a plan for me and know what they want from me coming in, and I’m ready to hit the ground running.” Crawford said. “They have had three back-to-back freshman All-Americans on their o-line, so I know that’s a great thing. They get guys in, they play guys early, and the play them pretty well.”
Crawford also said that the program at WVU exudes a “good family environment” that helped draw him in, which was evident as he spoke about the importance of his relationship with the staff in Morgantown during the process of making a decision on where to play.
“My relationship with Coach Matt Moore and Coach Neal Brown has been vital in my recruitment,” Crawford said. “Just being able to connect with them and have a real relationship with them outside of football, just being able to talk about our lives and our family and stuff like that, has been really important.”
Crawford also said that there was a bit of influence from his fellow future Mountaineers within his high school program to check out what their future home had to offer, which helped pique his interest regarding WVU.
“Eidan and Kyle, they were peer pressuring me to head on down, and see what it’s about,” he said.
Crawford also hopes that WVU isn’t finished picking up players from the Good Counsel program, mentioning that there are a few high school teammates he plans on delivering the same peer pressure towards that his friends exhibited on him. Among the names he mentioned was linebacker Justin Thompson, who holds offers from Duke, Florida, Marshall, Pittsburgh, and South Carolina, amongst others.
