How Kalen DeBoer and Nick Saban finished in Regions Tradition Celebrity Pro-Am golf
Kalen DeBoer and Nick Saban tied for third place in Wednesday’s celebrity pro-am golf event ahead of the Regions Tradition at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Hoover. The groups for both Alabama football coaches scored a 59, .
Obviously, the two coaches were not the biggest reason for the low scores, which fell well below par at Greystone, listed as 72. DeBoer was matched up with Stewart Cink, and Saban with Steve Stricker for the event.
“The one thing I know is that the fans will never be worried about me playing too much golf and (not) focusing on football after they watch what happens today,” Deboer said before teeing off.
Both golfers fell below John Daly’s group. Daly’s celebrity amateurs included former Auburn coach and U.S. senator Tommy Tuberville, country music singer Riley Green and radio personality Bubba Bussey.
The Daly group checked in with a 52 for 18 holes. The performance was good enough to win by four strokes.
UAB head coach Trent Dilfer’s group ran second, shooting a 56 through 18 holes. Dilfer and company were paired with Retief Goosen.
Condoleeza Rice’s group rounded out the top five, just behind DeBoer and Saban’s groups. The former U.S. secretary of state was paired with Mike Weir and finished out with a 60.
Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze and Georgia’s Kirby Smart were not among the top five groups. Freeze and Smart were paired with David Toms and Padraig Harrington respectively.
The Regions Tradition tournament was delayed for weather, but will begin on Thursday at Greystone. It’s scheduled to run through Sunday.
