DaShawn Jones, a former defensive back for Wake Forest, has officially committed to Alabama, as confirmed by On3 Sports. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds, Jones showcased his skills during the 2023 season, tallying 37 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 2 pass breakups. As a two-year starter for the Demon Deacons, Jones brings valuable experience to his new team and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Jones recently visited Alabama, and it appears that the redshirt sophomore had a positive experience during his time on campus. Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reported that Jones was expected to announce his decision to transfer to Tuscaloosa, which he has now done.

Joining Alabama as a transfer, Jones is the third addition to the Crimson Tide’s roster this spring, alongside former Miami Ohio kicker Graham Nicholson and former Charlotte safety Kameron Howard. The team has also bolstered its defensive backfield with transfers from USC and Michigan during the winter transfer window, including cornerback Domani Jackson and safety Keon Sabb, both of whom are expected to play significant roles in the upcoming season.

Alabama’s defensive backfield has undergone some changes, with several players entering the transfer portal, including safeties Tony Mitchell and Peyton Woodyard. However, the return of Malachi Moore for his super senior season provides stability, albeit with a unit predominantly composed of inexperienced athletes or transfers who have yet to establish themselves on the field.
